The Return of KyPass: Resuming Development with Renewed Motivation

Just over a year ago, I began to lose some of the drive to continue developing KyPass, one of the oldest KeePass-compatible password managers on the Apple Store. Although this project had been a source of pride and passion for many years, things took a slight turn. Thanks to a free license provided by my employer, I switched to 1Password. This experience gave me a break and allowed me to explore a different solution, gradually stepping away from KyPass.

During this period, the password manager landscape evolved, and KyPass faced new competitors. Unfortunately, some chose to launch unfounded and gratuitous attacks against my project. These criticisms, although unfair, affected me at a time when my motivation was already waning.

However, a few weeks ago, after fully exploring and experiencing 1Password, I realized how much that experience could enhance KyPass. Taking a step back and seeing both the strengths and weaknesses of a competing solution gave me a new sense of inspiration. Armed with this fresh user experience, I’m more motivated than ever to resume development on KyPass.

As one of the longest-standing KeePass-compatible managers on the Apple Store, KyPass is coming back stronger, with new ideas and improvements based on this experience. I’m excited to share this new chapter with you all.

Thank you for your patience and continued support!

  1. That’s good news. Please let me know when you have a release.

  2. That’s good news, thank you! Looking forward and curious what enhancements you will introduce.

  3. Thank you for discounting the price so I will upgrade. Still on Kypass v3! iOS 17! somehow have made it work. 🙂 As convoluted as it has been, still better, cheaper, and more trustworthy than most alternatives. I salute you. Looking forward to driving v6.

Wonderful! Will old dedicated users of yours be offered a “special “ price?

I go back many, many years with your program and it performed fabulously.

Look forward to the new very.

I have been using Kypass for years, as has my wife, on our iPhones 13 and 14.

But now, I cannot link Kypass on our new iPhones 16 IOS 18.1.1 to the KeePass kdbx file via dropbox.

I open the Kypass app. It shows “No File Found”.
I do not see anyway to link my kdbx file in dropbox to Kypass.
I see only these choices and none work:
    1. New KDB 2 file
    2. Download file for Web
    3. Upload from Desktop

I cannot find any other instructions, on the app itself or on the web.

So now, I have switched to Keepassium. This was a straightforward and easy setup.

What version are you running? I’m on version 3.92 and it works fine with Dropbox and iOS 18.1.1 on an iPhone 16.
